Help me iChoose, or you have no iHeart and are possibly an iFascist (because iNazi seems excessive)
Hi everybody,
Quick self-indulgent CD creation update: Song #1 is nearly completion in rough draft form, and I must say I'm pleased - lyrically it's pretty good, won't need much revision, and it blends pretty well with what I wanted musically for the opening track. Songs #4 and either #6 or #7 have solid ideas and names as well, and the whole concept is forming up nicely, with ideas coming at a fairly steady rate. If none of that sounds too impressive, trust me - it's unbelievable progress for me. I also have most of my new base recording setup together, just waiting on my USB interface to arrive. It's all very exciting, and I can see how it COULD come together, now it just needs to.
Alrighty, on to the also self-indulgent meat of this post: I'ma lookin' to score myself some sort of iPod contraption. I'm not wanting a full fledged iPod, so I'm basically trying to decide between the Shuffle and the Nano. Basically, I'm planning on using the thingy for exercising and maybe use at work. I like the capacity and the added functionality (in case my life somehow gets more complicated) of the Nano, but I've heard it scratches up easily and it costs double what I could get a Shuffle for, and since I'd go 1GB on the shuffle, 240 songs (give or take) would probably be plenty. That being said, it's not outside my realm of possibility to acquire either, and I don't want to cheap out now and regret it later. Also, if the Nano does scratch like they say, I don't really care too much, since I'm generally a function over form guy anyway.
So, whaddya think, savvy consumers? Help me feed the corporate machine and accesorize my life.

Um, is this showing up? Or is no one concerned with the production, purchase, and consumption of unnecessary luxuries anymore?
If I was any help at all in this area I would've commented. But unfortunately I know nothing about these things. Maybe someone else can help?
Wow, you posted...I haven't checked your blog in over a week because I just assumed. Sorry for underestimating your blogging capability :) .
Well, Geoff, as a full iPod owner myself, I will tell you that there will most likely be a day where you will look at your Nano/Shuffle and say, "why didn't I get a full-size one?" I tried to cheap out on that myself and only got a 15-gig one (back in the 3rd Gen. days), and now I wish I had a 40 gig. So, that being said, you might very well not regret having bought a full-size one. You just never know.
one has a screen and one doesn't.
'nuff said.
For the price I think the Shuffle is the best bet. There is the screen issue, though, of course. Myself, I just bought Kirk Perry's oldschool iPod (10 gig) for less than what a Shuffle would have cost me. It's not quite as sexy as the new ones, but it was cheap. Hey, there's an idea... see if you can find something used on ebay. You may get something that holds alot more for less than some of the lower budget new models.
PS - I wanna' hear some of your new recordings, dude!
i echo whitey.
Thanks for the tips, everyone. I need something that I can move around with, so a full-fledged iPod seems like a poor choice, though I suppose it'd work. I'll keep looking on e-bay before I make a decision, though.
As for recordings, good luck kids - you unfortunately caught me at a moment where I've just finished (again) trying to make the gear that I spent a decent amount of money on work, only to be met with the frustration of not being able to record or play back sound. Fun times. You should hear my new recordings sometime around 2015, if I don't bash in my computer screen before then.
Seriously, I'm extremely pissed right now. If anyone has ANY ideas beyond "download the latest drivers" or has some experience in this area, I would love to hear from you.
I say you should go totally old school and just use a regular computer microphone to record your acoustic guitar. And sing at the same time. Then throw some effects on there that the old Microsoft recorder had, like "reverse" and "echo." I think there's something there...
Meeks, I don't know if you'll be able to feel this through the Intertron, but I'm going to do it as hard as I can...
...NUTPUNCH!
Speaking of iFascist and iNazi, this is a bit off topic but I noticed the buzz words on your blog, check out this blurb about some iFascism brought to you by the engineers of the whole i branding.
baceman007.blogspot.com -- the post is iFascist
It describes how some Apple managers censored even it's employees private discussions. We can only guess as to why. Possibly to make sure that you are surprised when a new iPod, etc. comes out for example. The ends don't justify the means to me. iPods, trendy computers, etc. aren't more important to me than people's rights....
