Epidermal Integrity be Damned!

Settle this debate for Whitey and I:

Rock-hard exoskeleton or thick gelatinous membrane? Which would you rather have as an outer shell? I vote membrane, Whitey seems stuck on the exoskeleton. See, I think that a good, thick gelatinous membrane will be self-sealing and regenerating, and as such, it's only real weaknesses are extreme temperatures, save for outlandish things like planetary collision or something. The exoskeleton, while likely quite impervious to high heat, is still susceptible to freezing, as well as erosion and high impact strikes from hard materials.

Clearly, this is the most important issue you will face in the weeks to come. So decide now, boon readers.

When you say "rock hard", you don't mean it's actually made of rock, do you? 'Cause then, of course, it would be totally likely to erode. But if it was made of a strong, metal aloy, that would be different. Like, what if it was adamantium, like Wolverine's claws and Captain America's mighty shield? That would be pretty tough to beat.

But I suppose there have to be joints and moving parts, and some source of power... Hmmm... You maybe onto something.

The gelatinous membrane would probably allow stuff to bounce off of it, which would be good. But what if something hard and sharp hit it? It could be punchured, and then you'd have a mess on your hands.

In conclusion... I'm a geek.

Whitey, did I not mention during our discourse that any good, thick gelatinous membrane will seal itself upon puncture? Also, the mere density of said membrane would soften any puncturing blow.

I will allow that a very sharp point moving at high velocity could mean trouble, but this is true of any natural material you'd use for an exoskeleton, and as you already pointed out, man-made materials would be reliant on technology and possibly power sources, which transfer to more potential exploited weakness.

No, I stand by the gelatinous membrane.

Ok ok ok, let me end this discussion. I can say from personal experiance that the gelatinous membrane is the way to go.

I think Robin's on to something.

The gelations membrane makes me think of a room filled with Jello not sure why, but now i am hungry and am going to try and find something to eat.

I just noticed I'm listed in the links as "Normal male haircut" I have been smiling ever since. Mmm Good times, funny memories. You should grab whitey and come visit me sometime after May 8th when i will have a house. AJ

I always laugh when I think of that too :). As for the visiting, it should definitely happen, unless I stumble upon some great job in the interim that I don't want to take time away from right away.

you could come down for a few days and drop of some resumes and see what heppens. I could use a good drummer.

Do not be shocked if that happens. I've considered it.

Ok I have to go with Rock-hard exoskeleton like AJ from my personal experience. I find when I'm hit with chairs, rocks, and moving vehicles that I seem to have no problems. The other advantage I would have is my ability to eat large quantities of gelatinous membrane in one sitting. (mmmmmm gelatinous membrane with fruit cocktail added) My favourite Xmen has always been Collosus. Nuff said.

Back off, A.J. - he's OUR good drummer.

Exoskeleton - then at least when you finally get stepped on, you can enjoy the satisfying CRUNCH sound.

See ya this weekend! Bring presents! :)

Now now, the real mother was the one who wanted her child to live....not split in two....this worship team tug 0' war can only wreck havoc for geoff. he can't drum well at all if his arms have been pulled off. (Wait, I take that back, this is Geoff, so he is probably talented and gifted enough to learn to drum with his feet).

There was that one drummer who had only one arm and played drums... What bad 80's band was that again? I dunno, but anyway, apparently it can be done.

Blogger Hooper said...

Wasn't it the guy from Dire Straits? If so, they actually weren't a bad 80's band. I don't like 'em, personally, but they at least had some talent.

Robin and Hooper have laid this trap for me. Talking about the drummer from one of my favourite 80's band that rocket up the charts so many times.(hits in the 90's too) I'm not going to bite and correct them. I'm not that much of an animal, besides my rant wouldn't live up to the hysteria. I love them but love bites. Well i think I'm going to go and get rocked. Just an aside have you ever needed someone so bad. If you have they would be foolin' I'm hungry I think I'm going to sign off and go pour some sugar on me.

Yeah, I think what Kirk's saying is it wasn't Dire Straits. Wasn't it Def Leopard?

hmmm. so i was thinking, if i shaved my head and wore bandanas on my head would bbc consider that a "normal female haircut?" would it be offensive? because well, i'm considering it. and a nose ring. because in bangledesh a nose ring means that I'm spoken for so the men can't badger me. yep. nose ring. definately.

still voting on the membrane, and will keep voting until a new post appears. long live geoff.

Robin thanks for the vote. Steph, if you knew me, you'd know that my head is already one big frizzy mess already, so shorter wouldn't be much worse.

Oh yeah, I vote membrane. Again. and again. and again...
